A video I posted to my YouTube channel last Summer explaining why I started the #LoveYourSelfie campaign
Many of us love taking taking hundreds of selfies.*Me included*
If you take a few seconds to look through your images, I think you'll understand what I mean. It's not a crime to take a selfie or to add filters to our photos, but why do we add filters? Is it because we aren't happy with the way we look? If so, why not?
We find it easy to compliment others on the way they look, but sadly when it comes to ourselves, a compliment seems non-existent. Is this due to the pressures of the media posting photoshopped images of perfect celebrities, or something else? Regardless of why this may be, we need to start appreciating the way we look. Start complimenting ourselves, instead of disliking so much about our appearance. You are amazing, just the way you are. *Excuse the Bruno Mars pun, but it's true*
Next time you take a selfie, before adding any filter, why not pick out one thing that you appreciate staring back at you.
It's by no means easy to change a cycle of negative thoughts, but it's definitely worth it!
Start today, learn to love your selfie and if you can, post it to social media with the #LoveYourSelfie, to encourage others to do the same!
If you have any advice on body image or self confidence, email Anita at [email protected] and we'll share it on social media (with credit of course) to help others become more self confident.
